At Penn State’s Office of University Development (OUD), everyone matters. As a member of the team, you can play an integral role in one of the most respected and successful fundraising operations in the country. Our frontline fundraisers come to us not only from the higher education and nonprofit sectors, but also from the worlds of business, law, and other fields, bringing diverse experiences and insights to the conversation.

And once you’ve put down roots, we help you grow. OUD offers trainings and seminars on everything from proposal writing to stewardship to make sure you’re continuing to learn and progress professionally. We also have an extensive mentoring program to help build relationships between our senior leadership and development team members at every stage of their careers. We want everyone to feel valued and respected, and we want to give you the tools to improve your performance and contribute to your success.

When Penn State concluded For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students in 2014, it was one of only a dozen public institutions nationwide to complete a $2 billion fundraising campaign. The professionalism and expertise of our major gifts team set the standard in the field.

Philanthropy is an increasingly critical component of public higher education, and I look forward to working with President Barron and the entire Penn State family to advance the University’s mission and vision through the upcoming campaign.

Talent management and acquisition at Penn State

The Office of University Development Talent Management team is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to recruit, select, develop and retain exceptional advancement professionals. Partnering extensively with key leaders throughout the Division of Development and Alumni Relations to identify and plan for current and future talent needs, we embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusive excellence that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity, and engage all employees to help them thrive.

In the 1920’s, the University launched its first real fundraising campaign, a $2 million initiative to raise construction funds called A Greater Penn State. In the near-century since that initial effort, the University has set ambitious goals to further our land-grant mission of providing exemplary education, conducting life-changing research, and giving back to our community, the Commonwealth, and the world. We are launching a new effort driven by an inspired vision for the future: A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence. As a member of our development team, you’ll be on the front lines in gathering donor support for the imperatives of this campaign: Open Doors, Create Transformative Experiences, and Impact the World.
