Philanthropy will have a special impact in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS), whose enrollment has more than doubled over the last decade. Top students and faculty are choosing the college for its excellence across all its disciplines, including programs in geology, geochemistry and environmental sciences, and materials science and engineering that are ranked among the very best of their kind in the country. With the nation’s #1 program for materials science and engineering research expenditures, three Nobel Prize winners, and many members of the National Science and Engineering Academies, EMS is not only a home for groundbreaking discoveries and innovative education, but also an important partner with industry and government in addressing urgent issues such as climate change and energy security. The college’s faculty have earned multiple seven-figure grants to study critical topics including intelligent natural gas supply systems and greenhouse gases, and they are committed to sharing their knowledge with students at every level. The college’s 22,000+ living alumni include leaders in fields ranging from the petroleum industry to meteorology to policy and finance.
